About us

AKA (pronounced ‘acre’) was established to bolster landowners and users, cultivate communities, and create a transparent marketplace for those seeking to capitalize and invest in land through both traditional avenues (sales, leases, land-based businesses) and Innovative and potentially lucrative income sources such as biodiversity net gain, nitrate offset, and carbon credits.

By directly connecting investors with sellers, we return the power to the landowners and users, and away from intermediaries, brokers and opaque exchanges.

In addition, AKA provides access for its members to industry specialists and expertly curated resources.

Understanding Carbon, Nitrate, BNG and Other Credits

Carbon Credits

Carbon credits are a financial instrument that represents a tonne of CO2 (carbon dioxide) or CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent gases) removed or reduced from the atmosphere from an emission reduction project, which can be used, by governments, industry or private individuals to offset damaging carbon emissions that they are generating. Carbon credits aim to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Nitrate Credits

Nitrate credits are a form of environmental market trading. They allow entities that reduce their nitrogen runoff below a set limit to sell the surplus as credits to other entities, such as industrial facilities or wastewater treatment plants that exceed their limit. This system encourages sustainable practices and helps protect water quality.

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Credits

Biodiversity Net Gain is an approach to development that leaves biodiversity in a better state than before. Developers can achieve this by ensuring habitats for wildlife are enhanced and left in a measurably better state than they were pre-development. BNG credits represent the commitment to improve biodiversity within a development project. If a developer cannot achieve the required net gain on the development site itself, they may purchase BNG credits from sites where a biodiversity gain has been achieved.

All these credits are mechanisms designed to encourage environmental stewardship, promote sustainable practices, and mitigate the impacts of development and pollution. They provide a way for individuals, businesses, and governments to offset their environmental impact and contribute to the preservation and enhancement of our natural world.
